Overview

The workshop teaches practical techniques that significantly improve overall software development practice, establish effective flow of information from business to development and enable low-overhead specifications and 80/20 solutions. The workshop provides fundamental knowledge and understanding of UML, practical Enterprise Architect skills and capability to lead the implementation of the technology. The workshop covers full lifecycle from capturing essential business information, then defining and presenting integrated business-aligned solution, softwaredevelopment and maintenance.

Audience:

The course is designed for people who need to combine problem and solution views of Information Technology. The course is recommended to Software Architects and Senior Designers, Senior Technical Analysts, Project Leads and Technical Project Managers.

Content

The workshop and accompanying materials deliver:

  • Complete understanding of fundamentals of UML;
  • Ability to capture business needs and objective, and record business context in UML, as well as to communicate to and review Business Analysis
  • Ability to apply Activity, Statechart and Use Case diagrams to record required capability, processes and evolutions
  • Ability to define high-level integrated solution.
  • Ability to define application collaborations in Sequence Diagrams, and apply the technique to define application capabilities, interfaces and services
  • Good, "paralysis-proof" UML modelling techniques.
  • Confident facilitation of Solution Desing Workshops
  • Confident facilitation of Problem Definition Workshops
  • Ability to establish and follow UML Modelling Process, thus significantly reducing overhead caused by specifications and increasing its effectiveness;
  • Effective technique of designing Object-Oriented and Component-Based solutions;
  • Ability to capture and negotiate critical information on business level, then apply this information to produce reusable solutions;
  • Working approach to Business-IT alignment.

Every training day contains approximatelly 50% of closely supervised individual work, modelling workshops and presentations. The material will be eaqually applicable to teams using Rational Rose, Telelogic Tao, Holocentric Modeller, Microsoft Visio and other tools, as well as for teams that decided to follow paper & whiteboard UML practice.
